The Mersey Maritime Industry Awards celebrate the region’s core sector

On Mersey Maritime’s 20th anniversary, the North West and national maritime industry came together on Thursday 10th November 2022 to celebrate the sector at the 8th Annual Mersey Maritime Industry Awards.

The event, held at Liverpool Cathedral, was the largest and most publicized to date, with some 600 guests in attendance from across the UK and beyond. Preparations for the awards saw over 100 individual nominations on behalf of over 50 different companies and organisations. Nominations were received from across the industry and its associated sub-sectors and went through the well-established judging process which consisted of an evaluation by a panel of experts and then an industry-wide vote. industry. Over 2,500 votes were cast, marking unprecedented interest across the sector.

The award categories have been updated this year to represent a shift in focus and focus with new awards given for: diversity and inclusion; Environment, Social and Governance; overall performance; Logistics Solution of the Year and Moving on the Mersey. For the eighth consecutive year, the evening’s host was former BBC Breakfast show Louise Minchin.

A keynote address was delivered by the Minister of State for Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Nusrat Ghani MP. A long-time friend of Mersey Maritime, following her involvement with the organization as Minister for Maritimes in the Department for Transport, Ms Ghani delivered an upbeat speech which congratulated the organization on its milestone anniversary and made tribute to the difference she is making in Merseyside and across the UK. with collaboration at its heart.

The prestigious Business of the Year award was won by D Morgan plc and the coveted Maritime Ambassador award went to Gary Hodgson, former Managing Director – Port Logistics, Peel Ports Group. This award is always given in recognition of “outstanding dedication and achievement” and Mersey Maritime is extremely proud to mark Gary’s long and extensive career in the industry, including as a former member of the Board of Directors. company and true friend to so many in the area.
