To assess whether the future of work figures more prominently in the summaries and strategies of companies in the maritime sector, two measures were calculated. First, we looked at the percentage of companies that mentioned the future of work at least once in filings over the last twelve months – it was 52% compared to 15% in 2016. Second, we calculated the percentage of the total sentences analyzed that referred to the future of work.
Among the 10 largest employers in the maritime sector, Post Italiane is the company that made the most references to the future of work between April 2021 and March 2022. GlobalData has identified 20 sentences related to the future of work in the documents filed by the Italy-based company – 0.15% of all phrases. Royal Mail mentioned the future of work second – the issue was mentioned in 0.04% of sentences in documents filed by the company. Yamato, Alstom and FedEx are among the other top employers with high mentions on the future of work.

GlobalData also categorizes mentions of the future of work according to a series of subtopics. Of these subtopics, the most commonly mentioned topic in Q1 2022 was “robotic process automation”, which accounted for 42% of all future of work subtopic mentions by maritime companies .
